ESCAPISM

In compensation to the world we, as a people, have been dealt, I attempt to capture that feeling of hope, wonder and serenity found when

one is lost in stories.

That rush, calm or utter terror you can feel, conveyed so beautifully through music, soundscape, film, illustration and book. As an artist I

try to conjure that feeling, that comfortable being lost, something that one can look at, be fascinated by, and give stories a chance to

creep in through the senses.

The artist does not poses some divine power of creation, more truthfully one performs.

A ritual. This ritual, and the intention, belief and emotion it conjures manifests itself in a “process” and “work”. I believe that “fine art” is a branch of magic, considering terms such as “the art” and “the craft”, or the jargon near all artists use in an attempt to charm “the viewer”, should be seen as spell work.

I fascinate myself, and on occasion those around me, with wordsmithing and what we could consider sculpture. “Sculpture” in this sense

encompassing my bookbinding work, the drilling, nailing and knotting of various materials foraged and found. At all times I try to

incorporate teaching myself some sort of traditional craft, during the process of creation, weaving stories and cloth, stitching together

leather and words, and preforming some Frankenstein-esque techniques with any and all physical, theoretical, audible and literary

material I can shove my hoarding hands and ears towards.
